About me and my website
Hi, my name is Michelle and I’m the artist for www.michellemunger.com.
About me the person, I was born in Iowa but was transplanted rather like a hair plug to Texas soon thereafter where I have been growing happily ever since.
I went to a super tiny high school concentrating on my studies, taking mostly science, math and computer courses my senior year, but I am proud to say that I still graduated 6th in my class of 115 students. My nickname to many was ‘prude’, and because of that, I regret not doing a lot of things in high school. Like dating for instance.
I drew my first portrait in pastel when I was fourteen. It was a picture I had seen in a magazine and just loved. It still hangs in my stepdads kitchen. Click here to see it.
I never really considered art as a profession growing up. Both my parents were artists, but worked in the medical field, so I thought it was an interesting hobby, but nothing more. Then, a couple of years ago, I decided to start a portrait business. There was always something in me though that wanted more. I had stories to tell. Images of adventure and mayhem, romance and horror that I needed to put on paper. I discovered that I was also a writer, and for awhile, I just couldn’t figure out how to merge my two loves. That is until I had kids. Even before kids I had a love for children’s books. I collected every picture book I could get my hands on. I loved the stories, the pictures, the art of it all. My first attempt at a picture book was an educational piece for my kids. I wanted to write stories to teach them certain things in their lessons. I wish I could say the rest was history, but I’m still working at it.
My home life is simple. My husband is a software engineer and works from home while I work part time in a children’s hospital while homeschooling three wonderful children full time. I draw and write in between lessons.
I have several loves in my life (besides my family), Dr. Pepper is one, coffee another, and I certainly cannot forget about dark chocolate. The darker the better. (Nothing over 60% though because then it just starts to taste like baker’s chocolate, and that’s plain nasty.)
Our house is pet central as we have six dogs ( 3 in, 2 out and 1 in between), 1 funny guinea pig, 1 black cat, and at any given moment between 15 and 70 fish.
My favorite TV shows are Bones, Psych, and House. I love Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies, and I’ll watch anything with David Boreanaz in it.
